Bragg Creek Festival - May 30 and 31, 2008
Our First Festival
This spring we are launching a new event -- the Bragg Creek Festival. We are
pleased to offer a special mid-day concert on Friday, May 30 for the
Kindergarten to Grade 8 students at Banded Peak School in Bragg Creek. The
entertainment turns to adults and families at 8 p.m. on Friday evening with a
jam session featuring all of our Festival musicians at the Bragg Creek Centre.
Our Festival's main musical events will take place throughout the day on
Saturday, May 31.
At the Festival we will present well-known singer/songwriter James Keelaghan
(traditional and modern folk/roots) with Balu (Latin) to perform along with
members of the Land's End Chamber Ensemble (20th and 21st century classical).
Local musicians will also perform during the day on Saturday. Local singer,
songwriter Sarah Clark is sure to impress audiences with a unique style that
encompasses contemporary/pop with undertones of blues and jazz.
Festival attendees can also enjoy local musicians performing at our restaurants
and shops, and retailers will be offering Festival specials during the weekend.

Cheryl Penman
In Honour of Our Friend and Long-Time Volunteer Cheryl Penman
As
a tribute to our friend and fellow volunteer, Bragg Creek Performing Arts is honoured to introduce the Cheryl Penman Memorial Fund. We received Cheryl's
support for this special fund and are pleased to have her ideas and wishes
included in this initiative, which will be used to support young Alberta
musicians. The Cheryl Penman Memorial Fund will be used to help send a young
Alberta musician to Alberta Showcase, an annual event sponsored by the
Arts
Touring Alliance of Alberta, that brings together hundreds of professional
performers from all over the world and concert presenters from Alberta.
Every year, the Arts Touring Alliance selects young Albertans to showcase their
talent at the Alberta Showcase where they are able to interact with more
seasoned performers in a mentoring atmosphere. Many young Alberta musicians who
perform at Alberta Showcase go on to fame and good fortune. Both k.d. Lang and
Paul Brandt performed
at Alberta Showcase as a young musician with plenty of promise!
If you are a regular Bragg Creek Performing Arts concert attendee you will be familiar with our popular
50/50 fundraising draw at each main series performance. As a not-for-profit
organization, we generally use our half of the funds raised from the 50/50 draws
to continue bringing performance excellence at affordable prices to our
audiences. In some upcoming performances, we plan to use this portion of our
50/50 fundraising to contribute to the Cheryl Penman Memorial Fund. We are
pleased to begin our fundraising efforts for the Cheryl Penman Memorial Fund at
the Oscar Lopez concert on May 3.
