Stephen Fearing - Saturday, March 20, 2010
Main Series concert with Andy White opening for Stephen

Multiple Juno Award winning Stephen Fearing is one of the
foremost performing singer-songwriters in Canada.
Mixing powerful lyrics, creative arrangements
and brilliant guitar playing, Fearing has built up a loyal and dedicated
international audience with a wide range of songs - from his 1988 release
Out to Sea, to his last Juno winning album Yellowjacket. A
founding member of Blackie
& the Rodeo Kings, Stephen has collaborated with many artists
The consistent quality of work produced over Stephen Fearing’s two decades
plus career has earned him a West Coast Music Award for Best Folk Music
Recording and five Juno Award nominations as a solo artist along with a faithful
international fan base.
Born in 1963 in Vancouver, he spent most of his boyhood and teenage years in
Dublin. There, he picked up the guitar and traces of the Irish and English
musical traditions that have informed his music ever since. After a short stint
in the U.S. Midwest, he returned to Canada, and is now long-established as a
regular and popular fixture on the folk club and festival circuit in North
America and the U.K. Successful appearances at the prestigious WOMAD and Reading
Festivals in the U.K. confirmed Fearing’s ability to engage large audiences with
his onstage charm.
Appearing with Stephen and opening for him will be Andy White.
A song by Andy is a sonic documentary driven by beautiful and transforming
narration. Referred to as “Belfast’s Bob Dylan”, Andy’s instrumentation can be
quite rudimentary, yet he can disarm 15,000 people with simple chords and pure
lyrics. He is a man that lets us into his journeys, and relationships with
comfort and an openness that is fantastically welcoming.

web site.
Lorne Elliott - Saturday, April 17, 2010
Final Spotlight Series Concert in 2009-2010
This
is a Spotlight Series performance. Seating is at tables and an appetizer, main
course and dessert are available for purchase. Menu details are available
on our web site.
Lorne started performing in 1974 as a folk musician in East Coast Canada. At
the same time he kept writing fiction as well as songs, monologues and
one-liners. The outcome of such a training is a very special show of comedy and
music, totally original, entertaining, up-lifting and foolish enough to make
everybody laugh. Along with his unique and wacky performance style, it is the
timelessness of his material, joined with keen observations of today's trends
that make Lorne Elliott's work so special.
Lorne Elliott has performed his one-man show in theatres, universities and
clubs. He opened concerts for Rodney Dangerfield in New York City and Jay Leno
in Montreal. He has made regular appearances at the Montreal Just For Laughs
Festival since it started in 1986: each time his segments were selected for TV
Specials, thanks to their universal quality. In Canada and the U.S. he has
appeared on numerous talk shows and Variety shows.

Luke Doucet and the White Falcon, May 1, 2010
Concert Change for our final Main Series concert
Paul Quarrington, Canadian author, filmmaker, playwright, songwriter, lead singer and guitarist
for Porkbelly Futures, died on January 21, 2010. Porkbelly Futures is taking a
touring break and will not be available for our May 1, 2010 concert. We have
booked Luke Doucet and the White Falcon for the May 1, 2010 concert.
Canadian singer/songwriter Luke Doucet is a difficult figure to pin down. On
the one hand, he is an acclaimed singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose songs
sound like a prairie-bred and countrified Elliott Smith; on the other, he spent
several years as the leader of the spacy neo-psych rockers Veal, Vancouver's
answer to the Flaming Lips.
A proud and vocal member of Canada's exploding indie music scene, Doucet also
pays the bills as a studio musician and producer for decidedly non-indie acts
like Sarah McLachlan and Chantal Kreviazuk. Doucet was born and raised in
Manitoba, where he initially planned to become a lawyer before the guitar became
his primary obsession. He moved to Vancouver and formed Veal in the mid-'90s,
when bands such as Zumpano and Cub were making the coastal city Canada's primary
indie pop mecca.
Performing with Luke will be his wife Melissa McClelland of whom the Globe and
Mail said: “unforgettable... a coolly expressive singer, a gorgeously gritty
lyricist, and a vivid painter of pop noir.”
