In the past, Bragg Creek Performing Arts has concerts in January, however, in the depths of winter, attendance has been sparse because many people in our regular audience have to travel from Calgary or further to attend our concerts. In 2007/2008, we didn't have a concert in January and it seemed like a long time between November and February.
Now, Bragg Creek, Redwood Meadows and the surrounding areas have a number of very talented artists. Some of these artists would like to be able to perform in front of their family, friends and neighbors. So in 2009, we thought we'd try to have a January concert but make it community event with local artists. With the cooperation of the Bragg Creek Community Association, the first Local Showcase will happen on Saturday, January 17, 2009.
Each artist or group will play a 45 - 50 minute set. There will then be a 10 - 15 minute break between sets for us to set up the next group and for the audience to take a break.
Doors will open at 6 pm and the concert will begin at 7 pm.
Tickets are $15. All the money from ticket sales goes to the artists. Tickets will be available from the artists and they get to keep the money from the tickets they sell. Tickets are also available from this web site, our ticket line at 403-949-4114, Bragg Creek Centre in person or from 403-949-4277 and in person at Spirits West. Money from ticket outlet sales will be split between the artists. Tickets will also be available at the door.

James Slater
was born in Derbyshire, England but has grown up in Redwood Meadows and
Cochrane. He
writes his own material but is heavily influenced by singer/songwriters from
the 1960/70's era. Among these most talented artists he says that The Rolling
Stones and Bob Dylan and more recently Ron Sexsmith and Jakob Dylan have had a
major bearing on his style. James experiments with his songs, changing the
arrangements to suit the phase he is currently going through. With his lyrics
he tries to capture events in everyday life and expressing what he sees in a
song.
For

most prominent festivals, country venues and Honky Tonks. As a proud Aboriginal
Artist Pat, is constantly working to help define a unique sound and stage
presence worthy of those he honours. With his friend and collaborator Tim
