Professional Performers Produced By Volunteers
Online Tickets
Why provide online ticket sales?
We like to provide our customers with a number of options to get tickets for
our performances. Customers can now visit any of our ticket locations, call our
ticket locations and charge by phone, or buy tickets online.
Why not use a ticket agency?
Ticket agencies usually charge a service fee that can run to several dollars
per ticket. They also often want all tickets purchased through the agency. All
our ticket processing is handled by volunteers and this saves our customers the
cost of the agency fees.
Why use PayPal and not go directly to the Credit Card Companies?
The simple answers are Convenience, Cost and Security.
- Convenience - PayPal is an online payment company, owned by eBay. They provide
a number of payment options. If you have a PayPal account you can pay from the account. A PayPal account allows you to pay from your bank account or via credit
card. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can set up an account or you can use your credit card to pay directly through PayPal.
- Cost - With PayPal we pay a small transaction fee and a percentage of the ticket price for the PayPal service. It probably works out to be close to
the cost of processing a credit card transaction. If we worked through the Credit Card providers, we would first have to pay to set up an online merchant account. Then we would need a 'Gateway
Provider'. This would cost us an additional setup fee and a monthly fee. There would still be the cost of processing a credit card transaction.
We would also have to have a secure web site. That could entail additional software costs and additional charges from a service provider.
We figure that with setup fees, monthly charges and startup
costs we could spend or commit to upwards of $2000 before we sold a single
ticket. We are just a small community based volunteer organization and we can't
afford to do that.
- Security - PayPal is a large payment company that processes thousands of
transactions and millions of dollars per day. In order to maintain their
reputation they have far better security for online transactions than a small
organization can provide. If we had to provide our own shopping cart, checkout
and payment transactions we would have to have special encryption on our site
and secure databases and web front ends.
With PayPal, all the transaction security is provided by PayPal
and Bragg Creek Performing Arts never even sees a credit card number. When you
click the 'Add to Cart' button, a request is sent to the PayPal site. When you
are in the 'Cart' or 'Checkout' all information is encrypted (you can check to
make sure the lock icon is turned on in your Browser's status bar). The entire
online transaction is done with PayPal. We don't see any information about the
transaction or store any information about the transaction on our web site. When
the transaction is complete, PayPal send an email to us to advise us of the
completed transaction. PayPal also confirms the transaction to our customer via
email. No email from PayPal contains credit card information. PayPal also keeps
a record of transactions that we can view but again no credit card information.
When the transaction has been completed PayPal transfers money from the
customers method of payment into our PayPal account. We either send the tickets
or hold them for pickup.
This is the best solution for our customers and for a small
organization, like ours, that we've been able find.
