Friday March 4, 2011 at 7 p.m, Doors open at 6:15 pm

YoUthtopia is evening of entertainment by professional, independent, under 19, Southern Alberta based artists. It provides a opportunity for young artists to perform on stage and an opportunity for the public to hear incredibly talented musicians, singers and songwriters.

YoUthtopia helps support young artists. Tickets are only $15 and can be purchased from the artists. Tickets are also available from all our regular ticket sources and the proceeds from the concert are split between all the performing artists. For this performance there will be no Eyego tickets available.

Our first YoUthtopia was held in May 2010 at the Bragg Creek Festival. This year we've moved it to Friday March 4, 2011.

Artists

The artists performing at YoUthtopia 2011 are listed below. You can click on the headings or pictures to get more information on the individual artists, and links to recordings, websites, facebook, myspace etc.

Sarah Troy Clark from Bragg Creek

At just 16 Sarah Troy Clark is already a prolific songstress and recognized as a captivating performer. Her angelic voice moves audiences with original songs and lyrics that demonstrate depth far beyond her years. Couple this with beautiful original piano compositions and you have the amazing young performer that is Sarah Troy Clark.

Sarah's musical style is singer/songwriter with undertones of contemporary rock, pop, blues and jazz.  Her songs explore the passion and emotion in the many aspects of her life and are easy for most to relate to.

Sarah is constantly writing new music and enjoys spending time in the studio preparing for her next CD, which will be pre-released at YoUthtopia. Her inventory of new songs continues to grow and she is becoming a well sought after co-writer. Sarah was born a musician and loves to perform for large and small audiences.

Calum Graham from High River

Guitar Virtuoso Calum Graham has been blasting his way through the Alberta music scene in the short 5 years he’s been playing. From the small town of High River, Alberta he is truly a unique talent that is destined for the “World Stage”. Known as “The kid with the Golden Hands”; this 18-year–old fretwork phenom has a dynamic and upbeat style, and is at the forefront of a new generation in music.

2010 has been nothing short of a ride. With a showcase at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, an audition for Disney Music and Hollywood records, and performances at some of Canada’s finest Folk Festivals, Calum is starting to gather a name for himself, across the nation. His most recent highlight was at the Canadian Guitar Festival in Ontario, where he finished First place, and claimed his title from placing second, the previous year. This is the first time a teenager has ever won this prestigious competition, and CBC radio and the “SUN” newspaper covered his follow-up story all over Canada.

Robert MacLaine from Bragg Creek

Born and raised just south of Bragg Creek, Robert started playing guitar in grade 7, and its all been uphill from there. Dedicating all his spare time and energy to his craft Robert honed in on what made him happiest about performing and that was sharing his ideas, his passion and dreams with those willing to listen. Optimism and creativity are Robert's greatest assets, and all he wants to do with his music is make those around him as hopeful, happy and eager to help others as he is.

Melissa Papp from Calgary

Melissa Papp is an 18 year old Calgary musician. She was a member of Michael Bernard Fitzgerald’s choir and was then given a chance to open for him in Edmonton while he was on tour.  Melissa is now working as a soloist artist and had the opportunity to professionally record a song of hers and shot her first music video for the Werklund Foundation.

Her hopes for the future is to inspire those to follow their dreams as well and continue to chase her music career while travelling and attending secondary school.

Storm from Airdrie

STORM has been busy at various venues around Airdrie and area for the past 2.5 years. Original members include Brad and Ryan Fleischer now joined by Zack McKague. Brad does the lead vocals and guitar, Ryan is the bassist and backup vocalist, with Zack on drums. All band members are high school students in Airdrie.

Past gigs include shows such as; Crossfield Olympic Torch Relay, Airdrie's centennial celebration, a large Haiti fundraiser, Sled Island on the Young Buds stage, the Airdrie Airshow and Airdrie Festival of lights among many other events taking place over the two years they have been performing. This past summer they had the honor of opening for Canadian musical legend Tom Cochrane with Red Rider.
